Fall Cleanup Checklist for PA Homeowners
Everything that needs to happen before the first frost in Carbon County — leaves, gutters, beds, and lawn prep.

The full checklist
Lawn
- ☐Final mow at 2.5″ – 3″ (slightly shorter than summer)
- ☐Aeration (if you skipped spring)
- ☐Overseeding bare patches
- ☐Fall fertilizer application
- ☐Final mowing/blowing of clippings off beds and walkways
Leaves
- ☐Multiple passes — leaves don't fall all at once
- ☐Full removal (don't bag, haul off)
- ☐Beds cleared (matted leaves smother perennials)
Beds & shrubs
- ☐Cut back perennials (after first hard frost)
- ☐Dormant pruning of summer-blooming shrubs
- ☐Mulch refresh on top of beds (2″ insulates roots)
Hard surfaces
- ☐Pressure wash driveway before salt season
- ☐Clean gutters (after most leaves are down)
- ☐Sealcoat asphalt if it's been 3+ years
Equipment
- ☐Disconnect & drain hoses
- ☐Shut off outdoor spigots
- ☐Stake the driveway for the plow
